The Hyundians were a pre-Dashundia group that lived in the northern forest. They were an earth based people that revered nature. This strip is a reply to "stock elements" Contest - n°4
Prior to the War of Ancients, they were forced to convert by the monarchy of Dashundia at the time, who was a strict Zekkian. Any who still held their Hyundian rites were branded witches and fell prey to the Zekkian inquisition, whose hysteria killed many of the inhabitants, especially females.
In the last 150 years, efforts to restore the ancient rites and art have been undertaken. Neo-Hyundian reconstructionists work to educate the largely Zekkian nation about their beliefs. Many disallusioned Cthulian and Zekkian youths embrace the new religion, dropping their traditional beliefs and seek refuge in the female friendly flexible dogma.
The King of Dashundia has officially apologized this year for the religious zealotry that was responsible for the deaths.
Some Neo-Hyundian groups refuse to accept the apology as "too little too late" and use inflated numbers and hearsay information to garner sympathy from individuals. They state that entire towns were wiped out and estimate the death toll from the inquisition at 9 million. Though records are incomplete, historians actually figure between 500,000 to 800,000 Hyundians, Cthulians, and Zekkian Knowledgers were persecuted during the inquisition.
The debate still rages. Zekkian apologists acknowledge that the deeds of the past were heinous, they argue that the vast majority Zekkians today stick to their scriptures and that not all denominations should be the scapegoat for anger.
Neo-Hyundian groups are growing by a half a point a year, while the conservative Zekkian groups are dropping by a full point.
