Orion the Hunter
  • Description

According to the Latin writer Hyginus in his Fabulae, Artemis, virgin goddess of the hunt was reconsidering her vow of chastity in favor of this mighty son of Poseidon--who was himself a hunter worthy of her respect. Her jealous twin, Apollo, tricked her into killing Orion. Heartbroken (and vowing to never consider physical love again) Artemis begged her father, Zeus, to place Orion in the sky so that he would never be forgotten.
