Critical Mass
  • Description

Critical mass is a term used in nuclear physics:its concept one comes across when discussing nuclear material. In brief, the critical mass of a material is the amount needed for it to continue a nuclear reaction once it has begun. (wisegeek .com)

Critical mass is also a sociodynamic term to describe the existence of sufficient momentum in a social system such that the momentum becomes self-sustaining and creates further growth.(wikipedia)

The term was taken and used to name mass cyclists in protest on roads.

ie, Critical Mass is a cycling event typically held on the last Friday of every month in over 300 cities around the world.[1] The ride was originally founded in 1992 in San Francisco.[2] The purpose of Critical Mass is not usually formalized beyond the direct action of meeting at a set location and time and traveling as a group through city or town streets on bikes.-(wikipedia.)

We have critical mass cycles in Western Australia from time to time.
I have re-used the term again to name and describe my work here:
A Visual Comment on Mass Production, Mass consumption and Mass Waste.
