Description
This is the first chapter in an experimental strip titled, you guessed it, Death Match. This first chapter is kind of boring since it's all text, but it's important to lay the background for the rest of the story.
Anyway, like I said, this is only experimental. I have no idea what I'm doing here, since I just found this site on Stumble, so I'll see where it all goes from here. And, of course, any comments or suggestions are always appreciated.Transcript
ExpandIn 2003 the Unite In 2003 the United States invaded Iraq, beginning a long and bloody conflict. Over the next fifteen years both countrys' political scenes changed drastically. While the middle-eastern warzone slowly transformed into the democratic nation the people had dreamed of, the United States gradually declined into the socialist state that the people had been fearing. With the United States engulfed in turmoil and debt due to wreckless government spe With the United States engulfed in turmoil and debt due to wreckless government spending and military practices, the nation's oldest moral opponent saw a golden opportunity. Having no money to pay off the debt and no military to stave off the subsequent invasion, America fell to China in a matter of months. The world just watched. The Chinese also made quick work of the virtually non-existant Mexican and Canadian militaries, and by the end of the year 2018 the red nation had quadrupled in size. Immediately, strict new social policies and laws were enacted in order to keep peace in the new provinces. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of Americans and Mexicans were willing to blindly accpet these new laws in hope that they would finally lead to a fair distribution of resources and a decent quality of life for everybody. Soon after, however, various rebel groups began to spring up, inciting the people to rebel and causing many riots. The new government cracked down swiftly and brutally, squashing the rebel cells into submission and implementing increasingly strict regulations. By the end of 2025, life was not the same for the people of what was once North America. So many laws and restrictions had been put into effect that the culture of only years prior was lost in a sea of hatred and governmental attempts at keeping peace. DEATH MATCH Perhaps the most surprising of these new laws was the banning of all violent forms of entertainment from the new province. Such things as violent video games, action movies, and contact sports no longer existed. The government made absolutely sure of that. Of course, even the peoples' new leaders knew enough understand that in order to release the pent up primal nature of all humans, everybody needed exposure to some form of violence. And of course they had a solution to that too. This solution was known simply... Nobody expected China to call in its portion of the nation's massive deficit, and when it finally happened, nobody was prepared.
