Ma: Chambers of Life
  • Description

It was called the chambers of life. Tubes filled with life giving nutrients, feeding the ship. Steady hums of blue fire floating by. The center of the ship. A working genetic wonder, harmony between the organic and the artificial. I contemplated this as the float pads hummed by...

She was a beauty, and could give birth to a pod a year and fly at tremendous speeds. She could also care for the wounded, like a mother would care for her brood. We called her "Mommy" at times, and she seemed to like that. Our peers jeered, but they fly in cold dead ships, with their cold dead air, and the cold dead food, and their meatball surgeries. Cutting people up and putting em back together with steely threads and knives.

The ship is experimental, a fusion of various genes both Earthly and Unearthly. We knew the danger beforehand, and thought it suicide at first. But now we know that Mommy is so much better than a screaming metal tin can. I think she takes pride in that. I know she's proud of my work too. I love my little Mommy, and she loves me.

excellent sci-fi story... reads like a poem too... reminds me of jenova from ff7, in the "mother" aspect, but then, Jenova was never very nurturing...

For some reason, genetically engineered ships and weaponry facinates me. I have made two stories involving people who are "genetic freaks", built almost as weaponry, kinda like Guyver or the Tenchi Muyo series. I'm still playing with those story ideas, but have no idea where I really want to start on either. This is kind of playing with the same kind of idea, a ship that loves and takes care of you as much as you learn to love it.
