Masking tutorial
  • Description

Place object to be masked on top of masking material (in example, light blue).

Click on masking material & then click the Mask icon.

Finally, click on object to be masked. That object will transform. Sadly, new object cannot be copied or saved.
    ---
EXTRA TIP: change opacity or blur of masking material BEFORE you mask the object; it can't be done afterward. You can resize and move the masked object around the frame after the Masking operation, but not change opacity & blur.

This is how masking worked in early 2010--it's very different now :))

@EricConquest after clicking on object to be masked, hit mask button again which should have moved to the right by one button. This detail seems to have been left out of this tutorial?

Umm...whenever I follow these exact directions I end up with a blue square with a cat shape in it instead of a blue cat. Am I misunderstanding something?

Thanks! This'll definitely help. I still miss the old one, but that's largely because I used it as an eraser more than anything else. Good stuff.
