I’ve been thinking about a lot of the people in this world who have lived to ripe old ages: Hal Roach, George Burns and Bob Hope all lived to be a hundred. Bert I. Gordon is ninety-six and still kicking.

And what do they all have in common? They were all in the film industry. Which leads to the inescapable conclusion that being in the film industry is the key to longevity.

Or maybe that you only take notice of people in the film industry.

That’s not true; I know of a lot of people who never did film and none of them lived to be a hundred!

    Name some.

Well, there was that one blind woman that they made that movie about, and all those soldiers in the Civil War who were portrayed in that one movie about the Civil War, and there was that one guy they made The Lou Gehrig Story about - what was his name again?

    nothing of importance
